I wanted to share a brief statement to honor my summer research mentor Hema Kopalle. Hema’s mentorship has improved my research skills and prepared me for future research experiences. Almost always he’ll know of some novel technique or past literature that could inspire future inquiry into these questions. Finally, everyone in the lab has been instrumental in creating a quality research experience. I joined the lab as a first year undergraduate who only finished CS intro classes and had no knowledge on networks. My mentors are amazing. They are incredibly encouraging of independent, undergraduate research and they have made my research experience at the University of Chicago quite fulfilling. As an undergraduate, having my own project that I designed has been a gift. Even as a part of a larger project, and with plenty of help along the way, it’s still my own work, my own contribution to the body of knowledge. Additionally, my mentors enabling the Pursuit of Knowledge has been a joy. It’s created a wonderful learning environment that only encourages exploration, not stymies it.
