Scholar Benefits and Expectations

Quad Summer Grant Stipend:

  • Quad Summer Scholars will receive a $5,500 stipend awarded in one installment at the start of the summer research experience. 
  • All recipients are strongly encouraged to consult with their financial aid officer to ensure they understand any tax consequences or financial aid impacts of receiving a research grant.

Additional benefits for Quad Scholars: 

  • Quad Summer Scholars will benefit from annual CCRF research programming, scholar-community events and directed advising on relevant opportunities and resources.
  • Institutional support through the College Center for Research and Fellowships (CCRF) for scholarly research and recognition of that work for future postgraduate endeavours, including but not limited to advanced study, professional careers in a broad array of fields, research-based grants and fellowships.

Expectations of Quad Scholars:

  • Recipients must be actively engaged in their research for an average of 37.5 hours per week during their award period (approximately 10 weeks). 
  • Recipients must maintain full-time undergraduate status in the spring quarter before and the autumn quarter after the award period.
  • Grantees must disclose any other scholarships, fellowships, awards, or stipends supporting their research project. The Quad Summer award may be adjusted according to policies related to receiving funds from multiple UChicago sources.
  • All Quad scholars will be required to present their research at the annual University of Chicago Undergraduate Research Symposium (Generally hosted in late April each year).
    • If unable to present at the next upcoming symposium, they will be required to do so before graduation.
  • All Quad scholars will be required to complete a post-award survey and will be invited to submit occasional alumni surveys.
