2021 IJRA Application

Application Process: 

Before you begin your application, please carefully review the 2021 Sussex Research Projects listed here. You will need to write about your top-choice opportunity in your 500-word statement; if you are interested (and qualified) in more than one project, you may list up to three and write briefly about your 2nd and 3rd choices..

You will submit your complete application materials ONLINE HEREYour application will include the following: 

  • Current academic CV (two pages is preferrable)
  • 500-word (max) motivation statement, describing your interest in working on the research project you have selected, what specific skills and experience you bring to the project, and how this research experience will contribute to your broader academic goals. 
  • Names, titles, and emails of two faculty or other academic (research mentors) references; please ask your references if they are willing to serve as references before submitting your application; please do not have career or academic advisors listed as references.
  • Unofficial Transcript (please download an unofficial copy from the registrars office; do not submit a screen shot of your myuchicago page)

REVIEW PROCESS: This is a selective review process. Candidates will be selected based on fit for the opportunity and the quality of their application materials. Approximately twice as many candidate files as open positions will be sent forward to the Sussex faculty, who will interview selected candidates. 

PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT ANY MATERIALS DIRECTLY to the named faculty scholars. This includes letters of reference; if you do so, your letters will be automatically deleted and your application no longer considered. 

APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED ON A ROLLING BASIS. The UChicago-USussex IJRA Scholars program application will remain open until all grants are awarded or the campus deadline passes, whichever comes first.
