Summer Internships in Plant Health at Kansas State University

Opportunity Description:


The Department of Plant Pathology at Kansas State University (K-State) will be offering summer internships in plant pathology and related subjects (e.g. crop genetics, horticulture, entomology, and agronomy). The student interns will work with faculty, postdoctoral scholars, or graduate students at K-State on research projects that will be either lab-, greenhouse-, field-based, or a combination of above components. 

The program will run from June 1 - July 28 2022, and interns will receive:

  • A $5,200 stipend paid in several installments over the summer
  • A travel reimbursement allowance up to $600 for airfare, mileage, etc.
  • Housing and dining (20 meals per week) in K-State dorms will be provided. (An equivalent housing stipend may be another option. Contact the coordinator for details)

Minimum Qualifications and/or Eligibility Requirements: 

  1. Applicant must be at least 18 years old at the time of program start.
  2. Applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  3. Applicant must be an undergraduate student who is enrolled in a degree program (full- or part-time) leading to a Bachelor's degree.

Application Process: 

Students can apply to this REEU (Research and Extension Experiences for Undergraduates) program by submitting the online application. Please plan on completing the application in one session. You will need the following materials:

  1. Titles of three projects chosen from the 2022 Projects List. Please read all the project descriptions.
  2. Statement of research interests, career goals (1-page maximum, single spaced and size 12 font). In this one page, also list all academic honors, scholarships, teaching or work experiences that you have had.
  3. Copy of unofficial transcripts.
  4. Name of two people who will write letters of recommendation. (Examples of good referees are professors who know you well and can evaluate your skills, abilities, and potential). Applicants are responsible for contacting their referees and requesting them to send letters directly to kennelly@ksu.edu by (new extended deadline) February 25 2022.
