Gates Summer Internship Program (GSIP)

Opportunity Description:


Inspired by years of positive experiences with summer interns in Gates Center laboratories, Drs.Tamara Terzian, Neil Box and Enrique Torchia conceived an official internship program to inspire outstanding young college undergraduates to pursue careers in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. A committee of Gates Center faculty will select highly qualified undergraduates to work full-time in laboratories located at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. GSIP is a full-time training program that spans 11 weeks.

In addition to working in Gates Center member's laboratory, interns will participate in weekly GSIP seminars, social events and community service. They will also present their summer research project in a poster session at the Final Day Program.

 

Minimum Qualifications and/or Eligibility Requirements: 

The Gates Summer Internship Program (GSIP) is open to applicants from all backgrounds who are in a science-related major and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at the time of application. Former GSIP interns are encouraged to apply.

We welcome students from traditionally unrepresented groups in biomedical research, such as African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Pacific Islander, first-generation college students who are economically disadvantaged and students with disabilities.  Students from rural or inner-city areas with limited access to research opportunities are also encouraged to apply. GSIP is open to international students who possess an F1 visa.

Application Process: 

GSIP applicants are required to provide the following documents:

  1. Two letters of recommendation – Applicants will be prompted to provide the name and email address of two references to generate reference requests. At least one of the recommendations should be from a previous or current science professor.
  2. CV or Resume – Applicants should detail their experience, academic background, research, awards, publications, presentations, community service, skills and credentials.
  3. Transcript(s) – Applicants will need to upload a copy of their unofficial transcript. Please note that official transcripts will be required upon acceptance.
  4. Online application form – Applicants should complete the online application form here.
