EUROSCHOLARS Program: European Undergraduate Research Opportunities

EuroScholars is a unique research abroad programme designed for advanced and talented undergraduate students from US and Canadian institutions looking for an international research experience. The EuroScholars Program offers these students to conduct research at one of 4 internationally renowned European Research Universities. In this programme, students have the opportunity to undertake one course in the classroom and then work under the direct supervision of professors and other academic staff on a specific academic research project chosen by both the student and the faculty. There are an abundance of  academic research projects in a variety of fields to choose from within the participating European universities.

EuroScholars is a once in a lifetime opportunity to for students to become familiar with the European academic culture and to investigate their potential in a future research career while enjoying the value of conducting research abroad as an undergraduate student.

The objectives of this programme are to give students the challenge of conducting original research at the cutting edge of human knowledge and promote interactions with scholars through immersion in the research environment. Students will learn about scientific reasoning, research methods, theoretical principles related to the research area, and scholarly communication. By finalizing the results of their research project into a paper of publishable quality, students will also improve their writing and presentation skills.

Minimum Qualifications and/or Eligibility Requirements: 

EuroScholars is looking for outstanding and motivated advanced undergraduates and honors students from US / Canadian institutions who have a strong interest in an academic/research career. A GPA of 3.4 or higher is also required.

Students do not need to have research experience, however, science students should have ample academic experience in a laboratory setting.

Knowledge or skills gained from the experience: 

The objectives of this program are to challenge students to conduct original research at the cutting edge of human knowledge and promote interactions with scholars through an immersion in European undergraduate research opportunities in the research environment. As a participant, you will learn about scientific reasoning, research methods, theoretical principles related to the research area, and scholarly communication. By finalizing the results of your research project in a paper of publishable quality, you will also have improved your writing and presentation skills.

  • You will be able to evaluate and focus your career interests.
  • The experience will enhance your intercultural skills due to the close contact with academics and other students as the result of working together and discussing the research program.
  • The program also enhances your understanding of academic research and your potential personal role in this.

Application Process: 

Applications are accepted for two sessions. The application deadline is usually April 1 for the fall semester and October 1 for the spring semester.

Since semester starting dates vary per host university, late applications may be taken into consideration. Check with ISA whether late applications are still welcome at the institution of your choice.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and are sent to your top choice one at a time, in your indicated order of preference. You are strongly encouraged to complete your application well in advance of the deadlines to ensure adequate time for Professors to review your application in time for admissions, visa, housing procedures etc., especially if for any reason your application must be transferred to your alternate project selection(s).
