Galapagos USDS Application

Program Advisory: The 2021 Galapagos summer research program is currently on hiatus due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions. However, we anticipate its resumption in the summer of 2022. Students can anticipate the application opening for the 2022 program in Winter quarter 2022.

Application Process: 

Please make sure you have read carefully the complete eligibility information before applying. You will submit your complete application materials ONLINE HERE including the following:

  • Current curriculum vitae or academic resume (up to two pages), including the names, titles, and emails of two faculty or other academic (research mentors) references; please ask your references if they are willing to serve as references before submitting your application; please do not have career or academic advisors listed as references.
  • 500-word (max) motivation statement, describing your interest in the 2022 Galapagos Urbanization & Sustainable Development Study Research Program, as well as research and/or other experiences relevant to the experience; your motivation statement should address your strengths and experience in relation to the stated eligibility requirments
  • Unofficial Transcript (please download an unofficial copy from the registrars office; do not submit a screen shot of your myuchicago page)
  • Optional document: Data visualization or code portfolio or other sample succinctly presenting quantitative and/or computational analysis

Review Process: This is a selective review process. Candidates will be selected based on fit for the opportunity and the quality of their application materials. Following the campus deadline, finalists will be invited to interview with the faculty directors.

PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT ANY MATERIALS DIRECTLY to the named faculty scholars. This includes letters of reference; if you do so, your letters will be automatically deleted and your application no longer considered.
