American Society for Microbiology Undergraduate Research Fellowship

Opportunity Description:


 

The ASM Undergraduate Research Fellowship provides students an opportunity to conduct research and attend ASM Microbe to present their research results. Faculty have an opportunity to mentor students and receive stipend and travel support for their students to conduct research.

For Students:

  • Stipend to conduct research with a microbiologist at your home institution
  • Travel support to attend ASM Microbe (pending abstract acceptance)
  • Travel support to attend networking and presentation workshop
  • Recognition in a prestigious fellowship program
  • Opportunities to network with peers

Note: Community College students may conduct research at their home institution or at a nearby four-year university

Minimum Qualifications and/or Eligibility Requirements: 

Student eligibility requirements include:

  • ASM membership
  • U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or DACA eligibility
  • Full-time enrollment as a community college, undergraduate, or post-baccalaureate student
  • Involvement in a research project
  • An ASM member at their home institution to serve as a mentor
  • No other financial support for research during fellowship

Application Process: 

The program requires a joint application from the student and the faculty research mentor, both parts must be completed by the deadline.

The student's portion of the application includes:

  • ASM member number
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Personal statement
