Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme in the Humanities

Provides full funding for a graduate degree in the humanities at Oxford University

The Ertegun Scholarship brings together the world's top graduate students in the Humanities with Oxford's exceptional community of scholars in a unique setting that fosters dialogue across academic disciplines, across cultures and across generations.  Ertegun Scholars will leave Oxford prepared to be leaders – not only leaders in their chosen fields, but also leaders of global thought and opinion and leaders of positive action for the betterment of humanity.

The scholarship provides 100% of university and college fees, a grant for living costs and exclusive use of Ertegun House. Awards are made for the full duration of a student's fee liability for the agreed course (masters and doctoral).

Eligibility Requirements

Students should be applying to start a new one- or two-year full-time Master’s degree or three-year full-time doctoral degree at Oxford.

Applications to The Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme may be made by those in fields covered by the following Faculties: Classics (including classical archaeology); English Language and Literature; Fine Art (DPhil in Contemporary Art History and Theory only), History (including History of Art and the History of Architecture); Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics; Medieval and Modern Languages (covering most European languages and their literature); Music; Oriental Studies (including Far Eastern and Middle Eastern Studies, and the study of a wide range of languages); Philosophy; Theology and Religion; and the Film Aesthetics and Women's Studies interdisciplinary courses.

This scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other awards. Awards may only be offered for students starting a new graduate course. Current graduate students are not eligible to apply for funding for a second or third year of their course. This scholarship is not open to students with deferred entry.

Application Process

Students apply for the award at the same time application is made directly to Oxford by selecting ‘Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarships in the Humanities’ in the Funding section of the University's graduate application form.  Applicants must apply by the stated deadlines for admission set forth by the University of Oxford each year as determined by their course of study.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit.
