Sanford Research: Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE)

The NSF REU Site for Social-Behavioral Research Training in American Indian Community-Based Projects is offered by Sanford Research and Sinte Gleska University.

This Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) is a unique opportunity for you as an undergraduate student to receive hands-on research experience and mentoring in a social-behavioral research setting with American Indian community-based projects.

SURE is a 10 week, full-time paid internship which includes support for housing, travel, and expenses. The program schedule for the upcoming summer is June 3-Aug. 9, 2019.

Experience includes:

  • Research seminars
  • Journal Club
  • Professional Development Seminars
  • GRE Workshop
  • Dinner and other informal group events

Internship locations include Mission, Rosebud, and Sioux Falls, SD.

SURE builds your capacity to conduct independent research while preparing you with greater skills and ideas to develop your future career path.

This program offers promising underrepresented undergraduates the opportunity to explore their interest in pursuing careers in the social science professions and in disparities research.

Minimum Qualifications and/or Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Undergraduate
  • Students who are underrepresented (which includes underrepresented minorities, first-generation college students, individuals from lower income backgrounds, Veterans and members of the Armed Forces) in science are encouraged to apply
  • Must have an interest in social, behavioral science research
  • Particularly helpful for students who want to attend graduate school
