Cell and Molecular Biology REU at the University of Missouri

Opportunity Description:


Coordinated by the MU Office of Undergraduate Research, the Summer Undergraduate Research Program hosts students from institutions across the nation. Interns in the program participate in educational and social activities creating a vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming summer community. Under the guidance of an MU faculty mentor, students work on their own projects in collaboration with graduate students, lab technicians, and post-doctoral researchers. Students live in on-campus, air-conditioned housing (double rooms), and receive a meal plan, covered by the program. Summer interns also are provided with one hour of academic/research credit, travel to and from Columbia, and a stipend of $4,770.

Internships are available in the following areas: Animal Sciences, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biomedical/Chemical Engineering, Veterinary Pathobiology, Molecular Microbiology & Immunology, Nutrition & Exercise Physiology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Pathology and Anatomical Sciences, Plant Sciences, Psychological Sciences, and more.

Minimum Qualifications and/or Eligibility Requirements: 

Applicants must meet the basic eligibility requirements of the MU Summer Undergraduate Research Program. Students are expected to have completed at least one year of full-time college enrollment prior to June, be pursuing a major in biology, biochemistry, microbiology or related fields, and be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. 

Application Process: 

Students must complete the application form and provide the following information:

  • Unofficial transcript (including Fall 2021 grades)
  • Letters of recommendation (two preferred)
  • Resume
  • Personal statement indicating career plans, prior research experience, and research interests
  • List of up to 8 faculty that the student is interested in working with
