Internships in Panama on subjects pertaining to environmental science specific to the tropics

Internships give interns the opportunity to meet and interact with scientists from around the world, gain hands-on experience in their area of academic interest, and delve into Panama’s rich culture.

The two programs currently offered are the Research Experience in the Tropics and the Robert Stimming Internship.

Deadline Information

Internships usually begin approximately two months after notifications of acceptance into the program.: Saturday, February 15, 2020

Deadline 2: Tuesday, September 15, 2020

Eligibility Requirements

Internships are intended for undergraduates, recent graduates (post-bachelor) or Master’s students interested in advancing their professional goals and intellectual skills under the guidance of a scientist working at STRI. On rare occasions, internships are granted to PhD students or Master’s degree holders.

Application Process

Prior to submitting the formal application, applicants must consult with the staff scientist they are interested in working with to determine if that scientist will be available to serve as a research mentor. Please allow the scientists ample time to provide the Office of Academic Programs with the required project description (they will know what this is).

You can use the Smithsonian Online Academic Appointment System (SOLAA) available through the Office of Fellowships and Internships (OFI) webpage to apply for all internships for which you are eligible. Before starting the online application, read the description of the current internship opportunities at STRI to see which one fits your interests:
